I’ve been doing this since 1973. Spent 1976-1983 at a club The Pier in DC. Now that it’s all digital and I’m not getting any younger, I play for house parties and give my friends CD s or 80 minute tracks using Dropbox and soon SoundCloud.
You know that feeling when two tracks flow together like butter? Smooth, perfect — chef’s kiss. I hit that little Matching wedding rings icon in Rekordbox, thinking, "Yes, remember this beautiful union forever."
Fast forward 10 days, and I’m building a new set. I want those tracks that pair like fine wine and cheese festival entries… but nope. Gotta play the track first to even see what I matched it with — seriously? If I already knew that, I wouldn’t need the tag!
Oh, and to make it worse, I have to clear all the other related track filters (BPM, Key) just to see what matches. WTF.
Is there a better way to recall these magic pairings? Love the feature, hate the execution. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Unfortunately this feature is nowhere near as useful as it could be. There's no way to see a list of pairings, only tracks paired with the currently playing track.
The best workaround I've found is to use a playlist palette to keep track of decent combos during a set and then move them into their own playlist after
Indeed. I wish it was more helpful. I can do the playlist suggestion. I actually use your 'blank track' recommendation which is super helpful when I prepare mixes. I can insert blank tracks between combos. it's hacky but might be worth it. Thanks Chris. Have a good one! - J
Who needs a Rekordbox course, when you're videos are so spot on that it's already improved my workflow an incredible amount?
Not to mention, you're hilarious.
I do have a question though... Why so much hate on the Tech House?
Largely for my own amusement
Well its great for my amusement too. Your timing is impeccable. :)
